Dr. Michelfelders interests in
bioethics and health policy date to his days as an undergraduate at Northwestern
University where he worked at the Northwestern Center for Health Services and Policy
Research. During medical school at the Loyola
University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, his interests were cultivated by the
bioethics curriculum and by his many bioethics mentors, including Dr. David Thomasma. During his residency in Family Medicine at
Lutheran General Hospital, Dr. Michelfelder served on the LGH ethics committee and
participated in ethics consults, utilizing the training he obtained at Loyola. Currently, Aaron Michelfelder, M.D.
is the
Director of Undergraduate Education and Vice
Chair in the department of Family
Medicine at the Stritch School of Medicine where he teaches
in multiple courses and is also a faculty member of the Cook County-Loyola-Provident
Family Practice Residency Program. He
has been on the Loyola University Medical Center Ethics Committee and has been an ethics
consultant since 2000.
Dr. Michelfelder's special interests
include bioethics as related to national and international health policies, especially
concerning care of the underserved, as well as end-of-life care, alternative medicine, and
humane medical education.
