Genetic testing is now available direct-to-consumers (DTC) via the internet and without the involvement of health professionals. One type of DTC genetic testing is a personal genome scan, which is a relatively new technology that examines thousands more common genetic variants in a person's DNA. This testing raises both ethical and practical issues for physicians, other health care professionals and the wider public.
